Artist: Anne Claverie
Client and location: Maison Européenne de la Photographie
Originally, a tree. The one that stands in the courtyard of the Hôtel de Cantobre, casting shade over the Maison Européenne de la Photographie. Drawing on the codes of the photographic process, Anne Claverie transforms the MEP display window into a darkroom.
Made of plexiglass, inverted and taking root in the ceiling, the sculpture asserts itself as a luminous wave and evokes the image formed in the camera obscura. Immersed in the work, visitors find themselves, symbolically, at the heart of the image-making process. In her photographic practice, Anne Claverie seeks to reconcile image and volume through the direct intervention of the tool on the photographic print.
